Capital Regiment 2009 is officially over. The corps had what was arguably its best performance of the summer at DCI Open Class Finals on August 8th. We earned a score of 89.95, putting us in fifth place overall. Each member received a medal and patch for being Open Class Finalists. The brassline and drumline were both ranked third in Open Class.
Looking back on the season, it is worth thinking about how far we've come. The 2009 corps began with twelve brass players, two colorguard, and a whole mess of percussionists back in November. We worked our way up to a full brassline, nine colorguard, and one of the top drumlines in DCI Open Class. I don't think any of us ever expected to do this well and to achieve this much. We started off as a corps full of rookies and ended up being fifth place finalists. The journey has been truly amazing, and I know we can expect even greater things from Capital Regiment in the future. Thank you to everyone for a fantastic summer, and good luck wherever life takes you.
Passion, Pride, Excellence: Capital Regiment.

Our four age-outs are on their way to the age-out ceremony tonight. The rest of the corps is getting packed up and preparing for a short rehearsal later this evening. The season is winding down quickly and we are preparing for a strong finish!

Quarterfinals
Finals week is officially here for Capital Regiment. After a long rehearsal day yesterday, we had the opportunity to perform for several other corps housed in the area. Memphis Sound and the Racine Scouts also performed, and the Velvet Knights were in the audience. It was a great chance to see what our peers are doing and make some friends in other corps.
Tonight Capital Regiment performed at Quarterfinals and earned a score of 87.6. We placed 5th, meaning that we will perform 5th from the end at Semifinals on Friday. We have two full rehearsal days left before we take the field again, and I think the whole corps is excited to get to work and make this show the best it can be.
See you in Indianapolis,
Steph

Dayton, Ohio
The corps performed tonight in Dayton, Ohio at the seed show which determines a corps' placement in the schedule going into finals. We had a good performance and earned a score of 84.4, placing 4th out of 11 corps. We had a solid show, but it wasn't our best and I think we all have a lot more we can give during finals week.
The corps is now on its way to Michigan City, Indiana for a rehearsal day tomorrow before quarterfinals on Tuesday. More information on our performance time and placement will be here tomorrow!

South Lyon, Michigan
The corps had a great show tonight in Michigan. The energy level was high and the crowd seemed to truly connect with our performance. The staff called it the first show where we struck the right balance between emotion and execution. The entire corps had a good performance collectively, and it was obvious to me that we are starting to function as a whole now. The experience on the field was amazing and I can't wait until we do it again.
Overall we placed third with a score of 83.15, putting us in fourth place in the DCI Open Class rankings. We have another show in Michigan on Wednesday, and then we head back to Ohio for our home show in Columbus on Thursday.

Back on the Road!
After a twelve day stay at Brunswick High School, the corps is getting back on the buses tonight heading to Michigan. We are taking some time off today to do laundry and make a Walmart stop before leaving town. Thanks to everyone who came out to watch, volunteer, and support us during our stay at Brunswick.
We had a show last night in Amherst, Ohio and placed second with a score of 81. Congrats to our drumline, currently ranked first in DCI Open Class. Our next show is tomorrow night.

Niagara Falls
It was a busy day for Capital Regiment. After a 3:45am wake up, the corps performed live on NBC around 6am. We had a short rehearsal before moving out of our housing site and heading to Niagara Falls. We performed a standstill concert in front of the American Falls at 2pm. Part of the performance was broadcasted by NPR, and group pictures of the corps were taken afterward.
Following the performance, the corps got some time off for sightseeing. Tonight we are headed to Brunswick, Ohio for a week and a half stay to regroup before the second half of the season.

From Wisconsin to Virginia
Last night the corps earned a score of 71.9 in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. The overall vibe from the corps was that the performance was not our best as a whole, but regardless we still came out with the highest score out of the 5 Open Class corps that participated.
After a long drive last night, the corps spent the day rehearsing in Springfield, Ohio. It was a productive day despite a late start and some rain later in the day. Tonight we are back on the road headed for Virginia. Our next show is on Tuesday.
Happy 4th of July!

Move Out!
Today was our last half day at Rickenbacker. After a great stay and a lot of hard work, we hit the road this afternoon headed for the Capital Regiment Centre here in Columbus. The corps gave a standstill concert for the bingo players and other supporters of Capital Regiment. The performance went over very well and we are looking forward to our first competition tomorrow night in Pittsburgh!

After a great day of rehearsal and a uniform fitting, the corps ran its first run through of the entire show! Things really came together today and it was amazing to be on that field tonight. We still have plenty of work to do on the show, but the drum corps mentality is finally shining through and I think we are all starting to appreciate and understand what all this hard work is for. Pittsburgh is only 5 days away and I know we're all looking forward to it!

Day 6
Rehearsal is going well here at Rickenbacker. Things were slowed down a bit today by a storm rolling through Columbus, but practice continued inside the hanger. Despite the weather we set the first portion of Movement 3 with drill and music. Over half the show is now on the field and we're looking forward to learning the rest. The staff is pushing us hard, but the results are starting to show.
Hoping for better weather tomorrow,
Steph

Day 2
The bus from Virginia rolled in late last night just in time for our second day of move-ins. The corps spent the day reviewing and learning new sets for the opener. We had a successful day of rehearsal and the opener is getting much tighter.
Tomorrow we'll be focusing on learning the drill for our ballad, "Hello."
Until next time,
Steph
PS. Keep Carl's mom in your thoughts. We wish him and his family the best.

Countdown to Move-Ins: 2 Days
Welcome to the Capital Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps blog for the 2009 season! You can check here throughout the season to see what the corps is up to and how we're doing as we travel the country this summer.
I'm Steph and I am one of the corps' mellophone players. Like most of the corps' members for this season, this is my first year in drum corps and I'm very excited! I'll be updating the blog as much as I can to keep everyone posted on what we're doing.
Right now we're just two days away from move-ins at Rickenbacker Air Force Base in Columbus. We'll be rehearsing there for a little over two weeks before hitting the road on June 21st.
For more information about the corps, see Capital Regiment's website: www.capitalregiment.org. Information about competitions and ticket purchases can be found on the Drum Corps International website: http://www.dci.org/schedule/?mode=corps&criteria=cc36a667-c165-4793-8a85-d3a65ada8e82.
